Writer's picture: Nicholas SadlierNicholas Sadlier

The Fureys will take to a Belfast stage for the first time in more than three years when they play the Waterfront Hall on Friday 22 April.

One of Ireland’s most acclaimed and influential folk and traditional bands of all time, The Fureys have wowed fans across the world for well over 40 years with some of the most emotive music ever composed.

It’s been a long wait for local fans, so this showpiece concert promises to be extra special, with fans enjoying all of their classics, which include When You Were Sweet 16, The Green Fields of France and Red Rose Café.

One of the hardest working bands on the live circuit

One of the hardest working music acts on the live circuit, The Fureys were playing 120 concerts annually prior to Covid. So, what drives and motivates band leaders, Eddie and George Furey to remain one of the hardest-working and prolific live acts on the live music scene after all these years?

It's in our blood, we have been doing it since we were kids. We know nothing else and enjoy seeing smiling faces and making people happy.”

Pioneers and international ambassadors of Irish folk music

The Fureys have been huge international ambassadors for Irish folk music. They have enjoyed standing ovations in the world’s most prestigious venues from London’s Royal Albert Hall to the Carnegie Hall in New York and have wowed audiences across Europe, America, Australia, New Zealand and Scandinavia.

The band have also successfully introduced the magic and charm of Irish folk music to many previously unchartered territories, such as Bermuda and the United Arab Emirates, including a special beach concert in Abu Dhabi.

Tickets for The Fureys at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on Friday 22 April are available from www.waterfront.co.uk , by calling 028 9033 4455 and from the Waterfront and Ulster Hall Box Office.
